Danfoss supports Control Your Home campaign to cut heating costs

Danfoss is supporting Control Your Home, a new cross-industry campaign launched by BEAMA to tackle the 11 million UK households paying too much to heat their homes. The campaign is promoting the proven benefits of fitting a few simple controls to cut heating bills and improve comfort. Recent research at Salford University’s Energy House showed that installing a room thermostat and a full set of thermostatic radiator valves can reduce running costs by 40%. “By backing this important campaign, together with our installer network, we can help create more homes that are comfortably and affordably warm,” explains Danfoss Marketing Director, Bjorn Sejr Nielsen. “In addition to the real benefits for householders, the campaign will also generate new business opportunities for the heating supply chain, including installers,” he adds.

The focal point for the Control Your Home campaign is a website www.controlyourhome.org.uk which provides accessible information for consumers and support for installers advising their customers to fit controls, when servicing a boiler, for example. The website includes a handy leaflet for installers to download and give to their customers which explains how fitting heating controls is a simple and cost effective way to cut domestic energy bills. Along with insulation and new boilers, modern heating controls are now recognised as one of the ‘big three’ measures for making a home more energy efficient by providing full temperature control in every room. And you don’t have to wait until your boiler or radiators need replacing: the campaign is encouraging installers to spread the message to consumers that heating controls can be added at any time without major disruption and will be money well spent – a few hundred pounds on controls could cut energy bills by that much every year.

Summing up, Bjorn Sejr Nielsen says: “The Control Your Home campaign is a great way for the heating industry to work together to help the millions of UK households currently missing out on potential energy savings due to a lack of effective heating controls.”
