Danfoss has produced a helpful new guide to complying with the latest changes to the Building Regulations: Part L for domestic heating installers. It explains how changes to the previous Part L documents affect installers, particularly in relation to zoning and control of new central heating systems, and recommends compliant solutions for different types of domestic heating systems using Danfoss Part L Control Packs.
Produced by Danfoss, the new publication provides a handy introduction to the latest Part L regulations which came into force on 6th April 2014. “We’ve focused on what’s changed so busy installers can see the new requirements at a glance,” says Gareth Ash, Danfoss Technical Marketing Support. For example, the requirement for dwellings under 150m2 to have at least two heating zones has now been removed. Whilst this represents a reduction in zoning in such dwellings, installing TRVs on all radiators is still mandatory, and that now includes radiators in bathrooms. The Danfoss Guide also highlights specific recommendations for minimum standards and good practice which are now contained in the Domestic Building Services Compliance Guide.
To simplify new Part L regulations for domestic heating installers, the Danfoss Guide features example system layouts together with diagrams showing time control requirements for heating and hot water zones. Installers are guided through the process of setting up these zones for new and replacement heating systems, and selecting the right Part L Control Pack from the Danfoss range to ensure full compliance.
Recent research at the University of Salford showed that adding a room thermostat and TRVs to a heating system reduced the running costs by up to 40% as well as ensuring that the system operates effectively to deliver comfortable temperatures in every room. Summing up, Bjorn Sejr Nielsen says: “Part L recognises the cost and energy saving benefits of modern heating controls. Installers can be assured that all the Danfoss Control Packs featured in our new Guide provide a Part L compliant solution whatever the installation type, from standard vented and unvented hot water cylinder systems to a wireless combi boiler.”
