Tenants take control of heating costs and comfort with Danfoss room thermostats

Danfoss TP5000M Si programmable room thermostats are part of the energy saving heating specification for Council-owned housing managed by Dale and Valley Homes in County Durham. The high efficiency heating controls are installed in thousands of properties to give tenants greater control of room temperatures and their energy use.

The Danfoss TP5000M Si offers reliability, ease of use and enhanced home comfort and economy with advanced functionality such as Danfoss’ chrono-proportional control. This modulating mode calculates how long the heating needs to stay ‘on’ to achieve optimum comfort and boiler efficiency. Proven in ‘real world’ tests conducted by Danfoss, chrono-proportional room temperature control can result in a potential 10% reduction in energy consumption by the heating system compared with a slower reacting mechanical thermostat.

In addition to energy savings, Danfoss’ smart room thermostat has a Service Interval function to help social housing managers like Dale and Valley Homes meet the boiler servicing requirements of Gas Safety Regulation 36, as Terry Cranston, Health and Safety Coordinator for Dale and Valley Homes explains: “Danfoss has incorporated an audible and visual warning system into the unit to remind customers when servicing is due. There is also a facility which can be activated to reduce heating output if the due date passes. Full heating operation can only be restored by one of our authorised installers.”

Hoton Heating is one of Dale and Valley Homes’ preferred local heating installers. The company, based in Tyne and Wear since the 1970s, has installed Danfoss TP5000M Si programmable room thermostats for the social housing organisation as part of a whole new heating system, if required, or when replacing an outdated boiler with a high efficiency combi model, for example. Director of Hoton Heating, Neil Drakesmith, says he and his team have installed thousands of Danfoss products over the years. “We’ve always found them very reliable,” he comments, “and the TP5000M Si is one of the easiest for customers to use once we’ve taken them through the basics. It’s no wonder Dale and Valley Homes and many of our other clients choose Danfoss.”

Dale and Valley Homes currently manages around 4,300 properties, from terraced houses to flats and bungalows. As part of its comprehensive service, the organisation offers free home energy advice, which includes assisting customers in applying for grants, switching to a cheaper energy supplier, and using their Danfoss heating controls efficiently. Dale and Valley Homes’ Terry Cranston concludes: “Danfoss heating controls help our customers keep their fuel bills down without compromising comfort. As well as providing great products we get fast, responsive support from our local Danfoss representative, and that’s important to us and to our customers.” In addition to using Danfoss heating controls in domestic properties, Dale and Valley Homes also specified a TP5000 programmable room thermostat and thermostatic radiator valves from Danfoss as part of the recent refurbishment of the Selby Close Community Hub in St Helen Auckland.

The Danfoss TP5000M Si is a mains powered 5/2 day programmable room thermostat which offers up to six time and temperature changes each day, with different programmes for weekdays and weekends. Featuring a stylish, modern design, the unit has a large LCD display and a built-in switching programme so users can easily change settings to suit their heating needs. The TP5000M Si incorporates a real time clock and calendar function which eliminates the need for time-setting and BST/GMT time changes.
